Welcome to our Kakapo BlogAt Thorndon School we aim to produce creative and independent thinkers and learners. One way of sharing what we have been doing with parents and caregivers is by using our blog. In light of the development towards modern learning practice we are doing a blog as a whole syndicate, each class has their own page on our share blog (you can click on these at the top of the page). Because our students are so computer literate and are working towards being independent and creative, they are in full control of our blog. We have a specialist ''blogging team'' who will update it weekly. We hope you enjoy the blog this year and we appreciate any feedback you may have on it.

In Kakapo Syndicate one special kid named Ratu Orisi Berwick, known as Orisi to us, a New Zealand born Fijian had an idea to help Fiji recover from Tropical Cyclone Winston. He shared his idea with the Kakapo Leaders and they decided with the teachers support, we as a school can help by collecting 500+ drink bottles to give to schools in Fiji. This will let each Fiji student in the schools picked get a bottle each to store their drinking water as lots of villages and schools no longer have running water to drink or water fountains to use.
Orisi's parents run a Charity supporting youth development in NZ and Fiji called Positive Vibrations International so we are linking with them to deliver the water bottles for us. Orisi will also be linking with his cousin Jerry Wara a Prefect in Year 8 at Marist Brothers Primary School in Suva to help us in Fiji.
You can see more about Positive Vibrations International on the Facebook link above.
Room 6 Teacher Helen Plant, Principal Mr Du and Vice Principle Davina are supporting Orisi and the other Kakapo Leaders to develop this idea further so Thorndon School can support Fiji the best we can.

- Raise as much money as we can to support Fiji (see the details to make a donation in the top right corner above). All donations we get will be given to Positive Vibrations International to use to support the youth and schools in Fiji. They are going from Wellington to Fiji on 24th April and Orisi might be able to deliver our water bottle donations himself.
- Water bottle drive -we will ask in the school newsletter for every student in the school to bring one water bottle each to give to a school in Fiji
- Art Week Busking outside Rebel Sport on Cuba St -we will be doing a Fijian haka, dances, art (by Thorndon students) and music, whatever students want to do. Orisi's dad will come and teach the class about the Fijian culture next week. At busking we will also ask the public to donate a water bottle as well, being outside Rebel Sport means they can buy one anyways.
